Coconut husk

"... and you're travelling with your daughter, Ma'am?" asked the immigration official at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. He examined CJ's passport then looked at CJ and his shoulder-length hair. The official furrowed his brow. I stifled a laugh. At Bangkok Airport, the confusion scene was similar. CJ's 'normal' hairstyle is short like most boys. Sometimes a hair saloon would take the liberty of cutting him their version of stylish - Once he wasn't aware of the camera in my hand. He turned and I clicked right into his long bangs - Round and round Hong Kong, I had no idea his hair was this long already until this photo was uploaded. Only a few hours after we arrived home, CJ's grandma had his long hair trimmed very short. Now he looks like a coconut husk floor scrub. We're doing hairstyles this week @ The Mommy Journey .

'Cambridge is a complex place'

... observes the Duke of Edinburgh. Someone from Cambridge University Press came to speak to us. He gave away Cambridge: 800th Anniversary Portrait to a Thai teacher, who handed the book to me as if she was glad to get rid of it. (It's ok. She doesn't read, nor speak English) Into my lap a treasure fell. Some days must be bright and cheery :-) 1. "As an undergraduate I was persuaded that the Dons were a wholly unnecessary part of the university. I derived no benefits from lectures, and I made a vow to myself that when in due course I became a lecturer I would not suppose that lecturing did any good. I have kept this vow." Bertrand Russell , The Autobiography of Bertrand Russell , 1967 (p.53) 2. "Cambridge, wet, cold, abstract, formal as it is, is an excellent place to write, read and work." Sylvia Plath , writing to her mother, 1956, from Letters Home , 1975 (p. 17) 3. "Dear Sir, I will be obliged to you to order me down 4 Dozen of Wine, Port, Sherry-

Our Weekend Memoirs: Getaway, Koh Chang Please scroll down for Sunday Stealing My lair's got 24-hour security. Besides, it's a burglar's disappointment so without the slightest scruple, I shouted out on FB, "aweright, aweright paradise here we come!" A city girl revels in her weekend luck: mountains behind, ocean in front. More at Our Weekend Memoirs ******************************* Sunday Stealing: The "I've Been Tagged" Meme Today we ripped this meme of a blogger known as Kara at The Ramblings of a Marine Wife. We actually found the meme from Shius from the blog Addicted 2 Shius. Since this is a meme that has been going around for a while where you answer questions, and then add questions, we decided to use three sets. Kara explained that she was tagged by Life with the Lebedas. But it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday

Butterfly Kiss

It's Friday and time for a look-back: 1. Paying attention to my nook on its wakey mode. Monday I arrived at work an hour early. Brown birds were chattering precociously on the still-empty parking lot. The gardener's dog was munching a rubber slipper behind the gate. The place smelt like it had never known pollution of any kind. I liked what I witnessed. 2. Multi-lingual multi-tasking : - ears listening to an earphone song, nakalimutan mo na bang tumawa? (have you forgotten to laugh?) - fingers composing a text message, nikaon na si CJ? (has CJ eaten yet?) - eyes scanning a PR paper, "... government to mobilize resources for defense and military establishments" - mouth clarifying instructions, mai ao tini; song akhan sippeht (I don't want it here. Send it to Bldg. 18) *Three languages, one dialect lasting less than 3 minutes. I thought it was fun. 3. Apple pie with warm custard sauce; beef cheese tacos garnished with tomatoes and cilantro eaten over good conv

Relying almost entirely on milk and unless starving, CJ doesn't eat. So when I witness moments like this, I feel relieved. His recent snack choice is kechup or soy sauce. To make him eat something healthy I try these strategies simultaneously: coax, beg, threaten, set an example by eating the food myself or bribe. "I'll let you play all you want with Winnie the Pooh, Lion King and Mickey Mouse if you eat," goes the motivating factor behind this episode. Ibbity-Bobbity Boo! a little mouth opens wide. For a picky eater, this bite looks big enough to last him til the next snack time. Snacks going on at the Mommy Journey .
