Jane Austen

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman in possession of a Jane Austen addiction must be in want of more Jane Austen adaptations - Hazel, Delineating Des
 Jane Austen
16 December 1775 - 18 July 1817
an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature, her realism and biting social commentary cementing her historical importance among scholars and critics. - Wikipedia

Among ABC Wednesday players I doubt a Jane Austen needs much introduction. Even less known facts about her must not be much surprise to many of you. But forgive me I couldn't resist.

Bride and Prejudice, Tents and Tentsability, Fried and Pre-juiced Dishes, the book clubs, the blogs, the societies, and many more are a testament to her popularity.
As a fan working in the Education industry and trained in research, my readings about Jane Austen, tilt towards the literary criticism side of her works.  That besides all other JA-related things, is endless fun. As this burlesque is:

No Sense, No Sensibility

  10. I have read all JA's books, and seen the various TV and movie versions. What I'd really like to know is whether JA would find the BBC English accents of her characters in the movies and theaters a bit outlandish or just plain funny rather than accurate. (That's not a dig at the Brits, for I am one myself). But I do think we have invented a way of speaking, for all characters of that time period that is not legitimate. Do you think?

Unknown reasons

What spirit is so empty and blind that it cannot recognize the fact that the foot is more noble than the shoe, and skin more beautiful than the garment with which it is clothed? - Michelangelo  Why is the Mom in this family picture smiling? Oh, I know. The Dad is wearing shoes. Old Photo Album But my mother was also smiling in our family photo. All three of us look about the same age as this family. Mama said she explicitly told Papa that day long ago that we would sit for a family portrait so we were to don something formal. But lo and behold Papa came in flip flops! Mama wasn't very happy about it. She still placed our picture neatly in the family album though. Family is family, slippers or stilettos. What is unknown to me, besides the identity of this family, is how Father (rest in peace, Pap) ended up in the photo studio wearing slippers when he wore shoes virtually all the time. In fact we only saw him wearing slippers during his retirement. Ah well, so much for shoes. I have ...

Boracay

Boracay is a resort island in the Philippines, administered by the Philippine Tourism Authority and the province where it belongs - Aklan. The island is approximately 196 miles south of Manila. I visited it on a whim in 2013, a year after it was awarded, among several other awards, the best island  in the world by Travel + Leisure, an international travel magazine. "Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destinations for relaxation. It is also emerging among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife."
