Films shot in Thailand

There are more than thirty films shot in Thailand. The earliest on a Wikipedia list is a silent docudrama called Chang, shot in 1927.  I've never seen #1-6 but have been to all filming locations like James Bond Island, Sirocco and the floating market. Oh,  except perhaps 'Bangkok Hilton' where Bridget Jones traded her wonder bra for a cigarette.  Seen any of these films?

1.    Around the World in Eighty Days (1956) directed by Michael Todd
2.    The Killing Fields (1984) Spalding Gray                                                                                  3.    The Ugly American (1963) Marlo Brando                                                                             4.    The Deer Hunter (1978) Robert De Niro
5.    Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) Robin Williams
6.    Alexander (2004) Collin Farrel
7.    Rambo, First Blood Part II (1985) Sylvester Stallone
8.    The Beach (2000) Leonardo DiCaprio                                                                                9.    Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) Pierce Brosnan
10.  The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) Roger Moore
11.  Hangover Part II (2011) Bradley Cooper, Zach Gadlifianikis
12.  Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth
13.  Bangkok Dangerous (2008) Nicholas Cage

  22. To answer your question, let me quote Wikipedia, "the availability of elephants, exotic jungle and beach settings, relatively low production costs, and a mature domestic film industry that provides a legion of experienced crew members, have made Thailand an attractive location for many Hollywood films and other foreign productions."

  23. If you can watch Good Morning, Vietnam again and again, then I'm curious about the film.

  24. The theme from the Deer Hunter, Cavatina, is our (h&w) theme music (no lyrics so not a song). It is actually my favorite classical guitar piece. :)

  25. Ever wondered if there's any film that shows the ugly side of say, Marbel? Kidding. Of course there isn't. As you didn't indicate at least ever having been physically to this "ugly side of Bangkok Thailand," to be credible in saying so, I reckon it would have been nicer if you sounded like you did some research before putting in your comment the way you did.

  26. Cavatina is such a beautiful classical guitar piece. I was playing it on the piano for ages and actually didn't know it was, if I remember my reading accurately, originally written for guitar :)

  27. It was. It's 11th on this list :D

"Around the world I’ve searched for you,
I traveled on when hope was gone to keep a rendezvous.
    I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow,
you’d look at me and I would see the smile you’re smiling now." :)

  29. How nice! My mother and her siblings sing that often via karaoke. That's where I learned the tune and some of the lyrics :)

  30. From the list, I've watched a few and agree that Thailand has attractive locations for film. I loved The Beach setting-though almost like Coron in Palawan. I think the Philippines has a lot of potential, too. Curious about Bangkok Dangerous and The Ugly American as I haven't seen them.

Dreaming up a surprise

A lovely week my friends! I give you sunrise from the world's largest religious monument - Angkor Wat and a quiet spot from the chili patches Some days this week were bittersweet. But I'm loving the joys and faves: This goodbye is not forever . Someone dear to me is away for a couple of days. On call for an important politician, he does not know when is he returning to base. Communication to the outside is quite restricted. Then out of the blue he sent word saying he was making use of what internet access was allowed 'along palace perimeter...' and then he was gone. But I'm glad he tried to reach me. Monuments Men . Those art pieces! They took my breath away. The Valley is a friend's short story which he asked me to edit for an alumni newsletter. I was hesitant; warned him I might unwittingly ruin it. My mind went back to that article I wrote 19 years ago. It was too late when I realized how unnecessarily sentimental it sounded; it was already...

Boracay

Boracay is a resort island in the Philippines, administered by the Philippine Tourism Authority and the province where it belongs - Aklan. The island is approximately 196 miles south of Manila. I visited it on a whim in 2013, a year after it was awarded, among several other awards, the best island  in the world by Travel + Leisure, an international travel magazine. "Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destinations for relaxation. It is also emerging among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife."
