Christmas week 2014

A happy Christmas it was. I almost starved; was invigilating and had to wait til 9 PM to eat for only the second time that day. Being single and living alone I mostly rely on cafes or restaurants for nourishment. But there's a job, food is available and I am thankful.

I'm celebrating the highlights of my Christmas week -

Government Complex

Three-in-one: i.e. visa, work permit, and 90-day report - all done. It's quite a relief to have immigration and legal matters out of the way; makes the fun of celebrating the holidays compleat.

Apex Lido

Films galore: Magic in the Moonlight, Saint Laurent, Serena, Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Night at the Museum 3. I love finding what memorable lines each film has.

They're getting rare, aren't they?

A real Christmas card. I can't believe someone would send me one. A delightful surprise.


Tasty tree

Macaroon Christmas tree a sweet, calming sight out of the holiday shopping rush.

Penny - at home on her throne

Christmas pooch. A friend in Canada adds this to her personal greeting, "my little one wishes you a merry Christmas too."  As a dog lover, this is much appreciated.

    Yes, I remember when we got lots and lots of Christmas cards...now people don't send them anymore.

    I still love anything handwritten and sent in the mail. I love Christmas cards. One year my friend Tracy felt that she did not get many. A good friend of her's made her a beautiful Christmas card collage. I am thinking of doing that. If you send me your address privately I will send you a card soon and surprise you! I love sending snail mail! Happy New Year and come visit soon. Also Penny looks so lovely too! HeeHee! You should visit my friend Edna and her little dog Pogo. He got a new sofa bed for Christmas. Dyslexics and Developmental Pediatricians

Let me begin with an observation on the latter.  Developmental pediatricians in the Philippines are a rare breed. Or that's what I noticed. From society and organization websites, to forums, to word-of-mouth, to my own experience, they seem to be outnumbered by people who need their expertise. A parent of a child with developmental delays has to wait weeks or months to see one developmental pediatrician. Only thirty are listed on the Philippine Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Twenty-five in one Filipino autism blog, and that is not purely DevPeds. A child psychologist, child psychiatrist, and pediatric neurologist are mixed in the list, although they certainly are a big help too. At my son's speech therapy and psychology center I hear the same account from other parents - securing a time slot with a DevPed is hard. They are all fully booked throughout what could turn into a year. You may be lucky if someone withdraws but that rarely happens. I'm playing

Honor, Awards and a Game

We've all been to several weddings but how many of us can say I've been to one in which the maid of honor was a he?
