Famous dyslexics

Top Gun glamor Tom Cruise. Not new. Einstein, Currie, Edison. Entrepreneurs and nobel laureates - believable enough as research links dyslexia with high cognition and creativity. When Cher acted in the Mask as a mom who could not read, I didn't know she was also dyslexic in real life. Names like Kiera Knightley, Andy Warhol and George Washington made me go 'they too?' Now some 13 other biggies:

1. John Lennon. It was his voice singing "you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one" I was hearing while traipsing the killing fields in Cambodia.

2. Nigel Kennedy.  ... all those violin music I have been fortunately subjected to lately

3. Leonardo da Vinci.  Just huge.

4. Pablo PicassoPortrait de la tante Pepa

5. Hans Christian Andersen.  Fairy tales are so alive in my world!

6. Agatha Christie. I wanna get my hands on The Body in the Library

7. Terry Goodkind, author of The Sword of Truth series.

8. F. Scott Fitzgerald. Hmnn... I have never finished reading The Great Gatsby

9. John Edmund Delezen. I play Eye of the Tiger when writing killer university exams

10. Fannie Flagg. I still have Fried Green Tomatoes. Unopened.

11. Philip Shultz, winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.

12. Patricia Polacco, children's author and illustrator

13. William Butler Yeats. I guess I will be austenuating 'a fire in my head' for awhile

  1. Wow, I had no idea all these people were dyslexic. It gives me hope for those I know who struggle with reading. Thanks.

  2. An interesting conglomerate of dyslexics. In my opinion, you're not missing anything by not finishing The Great Gatsby. Much prefer other authos mentioned on your list, such as Amderson or Christie. Heck, I'd even subject myself to Yeats again before picking up TGG a second time.

  3. Very interesting list. I had no idea these people were dyslexic. And don't worry about Gatsby. There are plenty of things to read.

Dreaming up a surprise

A lovely week my friends! I give you sunrise from the world's largest religious monument - Angkor Wat and a quiet spot from the chili patches Some days this week were bittersweet. But I'm loving the joys and faves: This goodbye is not forever . Someone dear to me is away for a couple of days. On call for an important politician, he does not know when is he returning to base. Communication to the outside is quite restricted. Then out of the blue he sent word saying he was making use of what internet access was allowed 'along palace perimeter...' and then he was gone. But I'm glad he tried to reach me. Monuments Men . Those art pieces! They took my breath away. The Valley is a friend's short story which he asked me to edit for an alumni newsletter. I was hesitant; warned him I might unwittingly ruin it. My mind went back to that article I wrote 19 years ago. It was too late when I realized how unnecessarily sentimental it sounded; it was already...

Boracay

Boracay is a resort island in the Philippines, administered by the Philippine Tourism Authority and the province where it belongs - Aklan. The island is approximately 196 miles south of Manila. I visited it on a whim in 2013, a year after it was awarded, among several other awards, the best island  in the world by Travel + Leisure, an international travel magazine. "Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destinations for relaxation. It is also emerging among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife." The party must go on

“Dare to love yourself as if you were a rainbow with gold at both ends.”  ~ Aberjhani, The River of Winged Dreams May I tell you something? I have been frequenting tea rooms lately. The other thing is, I found a sky beauty from my 5th floor porch! It makes me momentarily forget that we are under Martial Law right now. Life goes on and I am grateful for the wonderful things this week. Here are five of them: Something that made me smile in the midst of anxiety . Back home in the Philippines my kiddo is sick. It goes without saying I am worried but I can't help chuckling when I was told that he complained to my mother, "Grandma, I have a headache on my neck." An 'oh...?' moment . I was told that CJ's doctor is an old friend I used to date; asked my Mom about me after taking a look at CJ. Sounds and feels like my son is in good hands.... And then the roses, those love letters, that weekend together in an uncle's house came flooding ...
