Nesiote

According to the Phrontistery, nesiote is an obscure word. But defined, nesiote sounds as modern as can be.  It means living on an island. My family trooped to an island for a reunion last year.

This is part of the Fisherman's Village on Elephant Island in Thailand. Nesiote probably applies best to fishermen who live here -

Albert Einstein wishes that "somewhere there existed an island for those who are wise and of good will."

Laurie Anderson claims: "as a New Yorker, I'm someone who lives on an island and looks across to America."

George Gordon Byron in a letter to Thomas Moore mentions "the greenest island of my imagination."

This was rather a grey morning but my reverie was full of bright colors as I maneuvered these rocks. A world-class violinist washes up on shore.  Ladies in Lavender fades to a fact: I just love island - living during holidays.

  2. I'm so excited about visiting the Isle of Man in the summer and have dreams of living there some day. However, a friend said I might change my tune once I see how isolated it is. Who knows???

  9. Nesiote is really an interesting word and one would be curious to find out whether the Island is as interesting as its name. Well, there is only one way to find out and that is by making a point to visit the Island.

Unknown reasons

What spirit is so empty and blind that it cannot recognize the fact that the foot is more noble than the shoe, and skin more beautiful than the garment with which it is clothed? - Michelangelo  Why is the Mom in this family picture smiling? Oh, I know. The Dad is wearing shoes. Old Photo Album But my mother was also smiling in our family photo. All three of us look about the same age as this family. Mama said she explicitly told Papa that day long ago that we would sit for a family portrait so we were to don something formal. But lo and behold Papa came in flip flops! Mama wasn't very happy about it. She still placed our picture neatly in the family album though. Family is family, slippers or stilettos. What is unknown to me, besides the identity of this family, is how Father (rest in peace, Pap) ended up in the photo studio wearing slippers when he wore shoes virtually all the time. In fact we only saw him wearing slippers during his retirement. Ah well, so much for shoes. I have ...

Boracay

Boracay is a resort island in the Philippines, administered by the Philippine Tourism Authority and the province where it belongs - Aklan. The island is approximately 196 miles south of Manila. I visited it on a whim in 2013, a year after it was awarded, among several other awards, the best island  in the world by Travel + Leisure, an international travel magazine. "Apart from its white sand beaches, Boracay is also famous for being one of the world's top destinations for relaxation. It is also emerging among the top destinations for tranquility and nightlife."
