Stops along the way

Sally's Blues: fishing boats by the talipapa

Reflections: Big Ben in the Venice of the East (Huahin)

Skywatch: by the river

I was stuck with colleagues in a river jungle. Nice place, lots of cheery chatter, we were well fed, but work was work. It felt good when the remote controls, powerpoints and microphones were put away and we were on our way home. That's when the fun began - so much of it I forgot I had to pull off twelve hours the next day. But glad I am to be chatting about them:

Talipapa or temporary fish market was our first stop. A breeze cooling through the parked fishing boats and to our hall of work, AC-coated faces says how great it was for lungs to function in such a morning.

Blue crabs - our main purpose of stopping by the talipapa. 350 baht a kilo (11 USD). Wait, is it just me or do blue crabs turn pink anyway when they are steamed?

To the beach we go! You could guess where we took our loot.

Foodie fun. The vendor prepared everything and provided sauce to go with the other seafood that we bought. As the flavors slid down our alimentary canal, I thought the taste lived up to its reputation as part of a cuisine that's ranked 8th in the world by CNNGo.

The Baguette, our final stop. It's a cafe in Huahin (Thailand's summer capital) that gives off a lovely hint of Europe. I miss those breakfast baguettes in England, but back to Thailand first: the office secretary turned a new age that day. As we sang her a happy birthday, the white patrons in the other tables sang too. It was cute of them.

  13. You can always find the fun and food in any situation, Hazel! Of course, Thailand is noted for both. Does blue crab taste different? (I'll never know; can't eat most seafood)

You are correct: blue crabs turn a red when steamed, and they are good to eat! Thanks for making Blue Monday special. Enjoy your Thursday meal.

THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!

Dyslexics and Developmental Pediatricians

Let me begin with an observation on the latter.  Developmental pediatricians in the Philippines are a rare breed. Or that's what I noticed. From society and organization websites, to forums, to word-of-mouth, to my own experience, they seem to be outnumbered by people who need their expertise. A parent of a child with developmental delays has to wait weeks or months to see one developmental pediatrician. Only thirty are listed on the Philippine Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Twenty-five in one Filipino autism blog, and that is not purely DevPeds. A child psychologist, child psychiatrist, and pediatric neurologist are mixed in the list, although they certainly are a big help too. At my son's speech therapy and psychology center I hear the same account from other parents - securing a time slot with a DevPed is hard. They are all fully booked throughout what could turn into a year. You may be lucky if someone withdraws but that rarely happens. I'm playing

Honor, Awards and a Game

Tuesday Couch Potatoes: Made of Honor Awards and a Game/Meme follow. Please scroll down a bit. My pick for this week's TCP theme (wedding movie) is Made of Honor. I like the humor in it. We've all been to several weddings but how many of us can say I've been to one in which the maid of honor was a he? The scene which particularly cracked me up is when the priest mistook the maid of honor for a gay man =) If you're familiar with some of my likes, you'd know why I also love the Scotland location of the wedding. For more of the synopsis click here ; and here's the trailer: Head over to Just About Anything for more wedding movies. ************ My super duper bloggy friend Thom of Thom's Place for Well Whatever and fellow Mom Tetcha of Pensive Thoughts awarded me this Beautiful Blogger award.
